Quick - think of a contractor's saw!
OK - router table! Plunge Router! Mortiser! Depending on what country you're living in, the mental image you have of each of the above items may be significantly different from what I, as an American think of. With the Festool Invasion of the US market, we in the U.S. are getting exposed to power tools which look "different" from those we're familiar with - the Triton and Festool plunge routers for example - or the Festool plunge circular saw. And we're seeing semi-fimailiar tools being used in unfamiliar ways. And then there are tools that look very familiar - but in fact aren't. I've been playing with the Festool DOMINO (that I paid for out of my own pocket - no freebie, no special price, no connection to Festool or any of their resellers). This thing looks like a biscuit joiner - but it definitely ain't. It's something entirely new - or rather - it does something very old - in a new way. And the possibilities it provides is, and will, change how I think of how projects will be put together. Googling looking for more info on the DOMINO I came acrossed a pdf file - in what I think is Russian - that illustrated ways of using two power tools I'm familiar with - in a way I would not have thought of. So here's Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm. charlie b |
