It has a very fine grain and just peels off with a sharp tool. It sands well, to a glass-like finish. -- Gerald Ross Cochran, GA This is precisely the sort of thing that people who like this sort of thing will like. |

I have seen dogwood up to about 18 inches, but that is a monster.
Smooth even grain, pinkish tone to the wood, very hard when dry. Makes excellent boxes, and will take threads well. robo hippy On Nov 2, 4:38 pm, "Scratch Ankle" wrote: "ScottKlassen" wrote in message ps.com... I am about 30 miles south of Montgomery, Al and our dogwood is white with a very dark heart and about 9 to 12" in diameter. As for how it turns, as others have said, good and finishes well. Deb |

As I was growing up, I was told that there were no large dogwood trees
in East Tennessee, as they had been harvested to make spindles, etc. for commercial looms. The resultant product was said to be very durable due to the dense and interlocking grain pattern. |
