I have a chimney which seems to have a hole just below the bedroom floor
allowing smoke to go into the bedrooms. I can't reach into the brickwork as there're timbers in the way but I was thinking maybe fireproof expanding foam would do the job. All I can find in the diy places are foams which go upto 60C. Would this be enough or do I need some sort of specialist fireproof expanding foam? Any ideas where I would get it as the net is just giving me mail order places where the postage is as much as the product. TIA -- John Kelly Remove dimspam if replying by mail |

Not sure if they currently have foam but have a look. |

Best to do a decent job and either run a liner or have it "concrete" lined with an inflatable "sausage" with lightweight refractory material poured around it. One regular contributor used to run a company called Isokern IIRC and a look at their site may help. It'll cost a lot more than a can of foam but at least should guarantee your house isn't going to burn down or CO escape into the dwelling. |

I'd say a 1000 quid of lining, repointing, and so on, or possibly an 'up floors and fix' Insurance claim? |
