Doweled Oak end table

Oak end tables, using thru dowels to reinforce joints, rather than
more traditional joinery.

Outside of the dowels, which I discussed on RWW, the other
challenge was a decent rounding over of the edge. I used a panel
raising bit to carve the top, but it left a square edge, of
course. I could obviously use the sander or plane to round the
edge over, but instead put a 1/4" piloted rounding over bit in a
laminate trimmer and did it by hand first, followed by the ROS and
palm buzzer. It was a lot quicker and produced what I felt was a
more machined-looking edge.

By the time I'd finished a couple of these tables and some other
furniture using the same design, I was pretty fast at it. My BIL
was in town for a wedding and really liked the end tables in
particular. I had some rough scrap oak in the woodpile, so at
Noon he and I started making him a table out of the rough oak. By
Happy Hour we had it cut, glued and sanded and the next day, we
invested another couple hours or so and it was assembled, doweled
and finish sanded for him to take home and finish.

I'll post photos of more of this oak furniture later on. It will
include a coffee table and narrow table for between two couches.
