Does anyone know what the maximum allowable rise, and minimum allowable
going on a domestic staircase is? Max rise 220mm Min going 220mm Max pitch 42deg So for rise of 220 at 42deg, going = 244mm and for going of 220 at 42deg, rise = 198mm Also there is a rule of 2R+G a broad limit which escapes me right now. Toby. |

Max rise 220mm
Min going 220mm Max pitch 42deg So for rise of 220 at 42deg, going = 244mm (2R+G 684mm) and for going of 220 at 42deg, rise = 198mm (2R+G 616mm) Also there is a rule of 2R+G a broad limit which escapes me right now. Greater than 550, less than 700 In addition: Tapered treads i.e. winders, should have a minimum going of 50mm Going for a stair of up to 1m width should be measured at the centre line All consecutive tapered treads should have the same taper All steps in a flight should have the same R & G Not more than 36 steps in a flight Open risers should not permit the passage of a 100mm sphere 2m recommended headroom above the whole of the stair There special clauses regarding stairs to a loft conversion (1 room plus adjoining bath) which give greater flexibility. All in approved document K Toby. |
