Those who can actually think will not blame Bush,
Make that; those that can actually think like a mindless Gestapo thug will not blame Bush. But that's because no matter what happens the end is always the same; don't blame Bush! In other words, no matter how bad the mistake or how foolish the decision, if you are one of them, you can never blame Bush for anything that goes wrong. Say it over and over, it's not Bush's fault, it's not Bush's fault, it's not Bush's fault. Which means to them that the way Bush has handled this disaster is excellent. This is a textbook response to a natural disaster. Bush gets his usual A+ from his supporters. Nothing he did was anything but perfect and the only problems were due to some Democrats somewhere. Way to go Bush, another great job! Yeah, right. At dawn on Tuesday the news announced that the levees were breached and New Orleans was filling with water. Did Bush take action or did he fly to San Diego to make a political speech? The buck stops at the oval office baby. Not so long as Bush is there. The buck always stops somewhere else when Bush is president. It does these days, doesn't it? Funny how that works, eh? You must be a Democrat, right? Will that policy be rescinded again IF another Democrat is ever elected to the presidency again, like it was in the past, where they were not held accountable for their actions? So, when will the policy of Bush being accountable for his actions take effect? Since to Republicans nothing is ever Bush's fault I guess he never has to account for anything he does. He's like a god to his minions and can do no wrong. Everything he does is blessed and he never makes a mistake. Gee, it must be nice to be a Republican and have a deity in office to worship. It also must be nice to know that as a Republican that everyone but you is a coward and has no balls. Only you guys have a backbone. Everyone else is weak. I guess it's the keyboard that does that for them. Right wing computer warriors; they're awful tough when on the keyboard but they're chickens in person. Who does that remind you of? The man can't win. He offered federal help early on, but did not (could not) override the chain of command which was Mayor --- state governor--- federal If he had ordered federal agencies in early, deployed troops, both Nagin and Ms. Governor would have screamed foul and accused Bush of heavy-handed trampling of state authority. So he makes the offer in a timely fashion, and the indecisive state and local decision-makers do not make the call. Shame on 'em. And all this because Nagin ordered mandatory evacuation, but failed to provide transportation for those that depended on public transport, and had no vehicle, even though the city had dozens of buses available. What's the old line about "Your poor preparation does not constitute an emergency on my part" ? |

![]() Subject: Politics over duty This is a post from a fellow over in Merritt Is, FL, a reporter who's been researching what went on before the storm hit: I think all of Nagin's pomp and posturing is going to bite him hard in the near future as the lies and distortions of his interviews are coming to light. On Friday night before the storm hit Max Mayfield of the National Hurricane Center took the unprecedented action of calling Nagin and Blanco personally to plead with them to begin MANDATORY evacuation of NO and they said they'd take it under consideration. This was after the NOAA buoy 240 miles south had recorded 68' waves before it was destroyed. President Bush spent Friday afternoon and evening in meetings with his advisors and administrators drafting all of the paperwork required for a state to request federal assistance (and not be in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act or having to enact the Insurgency Act). Just before midnight Friday evening the President called Governor Blanco and pleaded with her to sign the request papers so the federal government and the military could legally begin mobilization and call up. He was told that they didn't think it necessary for the federal government to be involved yet. After the President's final call to the governor she held meetings with her staff to discuss the political ramifications of bringing federal forces. It was decided that if they allowed federal assistance it would make it look as if they had failed so it was agreed upon that the feds would not be invited in. Saturday before the storm hit the President again called Blanco and Nagin requesting they please sign the papers requesting federal assistance, that they declare the state an emergency area, and begin mandatory evacuation. After a personal plea from the President Nagin agreed to order an evacuation, but it would not be a full mandatory evacuation, and the governor still refused to sign the papers requesting and authorizing federal action. In frustration the President declared the area a national disaster area before the state of Louisiana did so he could legally begin some advanced preparations. Rumor has it that the President's legal advisers were looking into the ramifications of using the insurgency act to bypass the Constitutional requirement that a state request federal aid before the federal government can move into state with troops - but that had not been done since 1906 and the Constitutionality of it was called into question to use before the disaster. Throw in that over half the federal aid of the past decade to NO for levee construction, maintenance, and repair was diverted to fund a marina and support the gambling ships. Toss in the investigation that will look into why the emergency preparedness plan submitted to the federal government for funding and published on the city's website was never implemented and in fact may have been bogus for the purpose of gaining additional federal funding as we now learn that the organizations identified in the plan were never contacted or coordinating into any planning - though the document implies that they were. The suffering people of NO need to be asking some hard questions as do we all, but they better start with why Blanco refused to even sign the multi-state mutual aid pack activation documents until Wednesday which further delayed the legal deployment of National Guard from adjoining states. Or maybe ask why Nagin keeps harping that the President should have commandeered 500 Greyhound busses to help him when according to his own emergency plan and documents he claimed to have over 500 busses at his disposal to use between the local school busses and the city transportation busses - but he never raised a finger to prepare them or activate them. This is a sad time for all of us to see that a major city has all but been destroyed and thousands of people have died with hundreds of thousands more suffering, but it's certainly not a time for people to be pointing fingers and trying to find a bigger dog to blame for local corruption and incompetence. Pray to God for the survivors that they can start their lives anew as fast as possible and we learn from all the mistakes to avoid them in the future. |

The three dishonest talking points being spread by the GOP are these: 1) The Mayor of New Orleans did not follow the portion of the New Orleans Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, which specifies "Special arrangements will be made to evacuate persons unable to evacuate themselves." If this quote is taken in context, it is clear that it is referring to evacuating people to an emergency shelter within the city, not evacuating people to points outside the city. The Mayor did implement an emergency bussing system that evacuated the city's poor and disabled to the Superdome. This can be verified by reading the plan at http://www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=46&tabid=26 2) The Governor of Louisiana failed to request federal help in a timely manner. The Governor requested help on August 28, 2005 as can be easily seen by viewing her official request at http://gov.louisiana.gov/Disaster%20...%20Request.pdf The official White House response to this request is in the press release at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/relea...0050829-2.html In fact, the President declared a State of Emergency in Louisiana on August 26, 2005 that technically made the Governor's request unnecessary. This can be seen from the official White House press release at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/relea...0050827-1.html 3) Federal Agencies were unable to respond in a timely manner because the Governor did not request their help. Actually, once the President declared the State of Emergency on August 26, 2005, it triggered something called "An Incident of National Significance." According to the United States National Response Plan, this has quite a few consequences, all of which are designed to put the Federal Government in charge, eliminate delays based on paperwork, and eliminate any need for local officials to ask for help. Here are some quotes: "The President leads the Nation in responding efficiently and ensuring the necessary resources are applied quickly and effectively to all Incidents of National Significance." "Standard procedures regarding requests for assistance may be expedited, or under extreme circumstances, suspended in the immediate aftermath of an event of catastrophic magnitude." The US National Response Plan can be found at http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/interwe...P_FullText.pdf There is quite a bit more, but those two quotes cover the major points. By declaring a State of Emergency, the President officially took charge of the situation, whether he realized it or not. And once it was clear that Hurricane Katrina was an event of "catastrophic magnitude" there should have been no need for FEMA, nor any other Federal agencies to wait until state or local government requested help from them. -- John R. According to the left, in addition to being able to direct weather systems, he can manage New Orleans better than the current mayor, all while riding a bicycle and playing the accordion.), and make the sun shine all the time , and cause the buses to run on time, and the rains to only fall on Mondays. Could be, but then how come everytime his handlers let him get on TV he looks like he can barely tie his shoes. "Deer in the headlights" is the most common description. It is all part of his scheme. Even the left doesn't believe it, as they know that President Bush is the most cunning person on the planet, with powers far beyond those of mortal men. Do not be fooled by appearances. Bwahahahahahaha! tschus pyotr -- pyotr filipivich Any entity big enough to meet your needs, is big enough to decide what those needs should be. |

Gunner According to the radio Bush phoned the governor for 2 days asking him to let the government to send help. The governor refused help for people standing on the roof of their houses for 2 days. As I understand it Bush couldn't send in any help unless the governor asks for it by federal law. This was on the Lars Larson radio show last week. |
