"Foolish" was a poor choice of words, how about "inexplicable"? I hang out
with folks who love the blues and make their living playing that music, and
they seem to regard JV as the real deal. Me, I just enjoy the hell out of
his music. But no matter which famous guitarist (drummer, bassist, pianist,
whatever) someone mentions, there is always somebody who announces that guy
can't play for ****, it seems to be a universal rule.

I can play guitar better than JV and I'm terrible. Not even
a professional.

There are a million guitarists out there better than many big-name pros, but
then becoming a success in the music industry is about more than talent.
