Contributory factors include fatigue, knot, doubled, and subsequent split
that sent the 10d nail out the side of the framing lumber and into the
meat of the thumb/palm. Meat only... missed the bones and tendons.

Note that my negative scanner is not big enough to scan a 13"x18" x-ray so
I had to merge multiple scans in Photoshop... only the second time I tried
this so don't be too critical. ;~)
