He was with us for 17 years and although I didn't want a cat our
daughter got what she wanted. When she married 9 years ago we got
custody of Lucky. By then I couldn't let him go. He will never be
forgotten.

I feel your pain with a bit of a personal shudder. Our loving 11 year old
German Shepherd is curled up beneath the desk snoring. He sleeps a lot
these days. Trips up the basement steps are slower. The hearing is going
and he is starting a cataract on one eye. The vet told me his equivalent
human age was about 78 years and that was six months ago. He has his slow
days, and then he has puppy days. But we know it is coming.
