Default Loretto Chapel Staircase - Santa Fe

We visited the Loretto Chapel for the second time this past week and no
matter how many times I look at this, I'll always be in awe.

I think of all of the power and hand equipment in my shop; and then
contemplate that the guy who built this during the 1870's used tools he
carried in on his back in a bag. He borrowed or made barrels to soak the
wood for bending. He also used wood available in the Santa Fe area.

Moreover, the original staircase, with no center post, was a free-standing
helix. The stair rail was added years later because people were afraid to
climb it.
