Default Unexpected gloat

Page 31 (inside the back cover) of the April 2007 LV catalog lists a
"Nicholson Flexible Smoothing File" and says "Ideal for smoothing
areas of tricky grain..." for only $79.50.

Looked a lot like an automotive body file to me - and then I
remembered being given one of these things along with a batch of other
junk. I dug it out, scraped off a bunch of old epoxy and paint,
carefully picked the file clean, shot the rusty old screws with
blaster, and poured a bottle of shine over the remains.

Be darned if it doesn't work just peachy on wood - and it's a
fantastic tool for removing dried TB3 squeeze-out! I have a sneaking
feeling that it'd be a wundertool for "adjusting" tenons...

I'm not sure that I could ever bring myself to spend $80 to buy one of
these for my shop - but if you spot one in a flea market or garage
sale I'd encourage you to take it home!
