Sounds like it should be soaked in the conditioner used on rifle stocks - and it
glues everything together and stabilizes it.

I just learned from other turners in the last week that Chestnut has a
nasty characteristic of ring shake - meaning the rings split away from
each other. One of the fellows said he wouldn't turn anymore Chestnut
due to some previous experiences in which all the Chestnut he had ended
up in the firewood pile.

If this is true, be careful and aware of this warning as you turn it.
